Late-Night Food in Amsterdam West: Where Can You Still Eat Well After Midnight?
A late shift, a concert that runs long, an evening with friends that lasts longer than planned: at some point you are hungry, and it is well past eleven. In Amsterdam West that is exactly when most kitchens have closed. This guide shows what is still possible, and which dishes work best late at night.
Why is eating late in Amsterdam so hard?
Most restaurants in Amsterdam close their kitchen around 10 pm, even if the place itself stays open. After that, you are mostly left with snack bars and delivery apps. Delivery apps list fewer and fewer places after midnight, and waiting times climb to an hour or more. If you live in Bos en Lommer, De Baarsjes or Slotermeer, you know how quickly the options thin out after twelve.
There is a second problem: quality. What is still open at night often works with reheated food. Fine for a quick bite, not if you actually want to eat.
What does work: the Turkish grill
In Turkey, eating late is completely normal. An ocakbaşı, a grill restaurant where you sit around the charcoal, runs deep into the night. That habit travelled to Amsterdam, and for night-time eaters that is good news. The grill burns all evening, so whatever you order is cooked the moment you order it. Nothing sits waiting under a heat lamp.
Turkish dishes also suit a late hour. They are hearty without being heavy, arrive quickly and are easy to take away.
What is best to eat at night?
Light: a bowl of lentil soup (mercimek) with bread is warm, filling and sits easily. A Turkish pizza (lahmacun) with lettuce, lemon and onion is rolled up and gone in minutes. Falafel is a good choice if you do not want meat.
Hearty: an Adana dürüm is the classic late-night dish: spiced minced meat from the grill, wrapped in thin bread with fresh vegetables. If you are hungrier, go for a kebab platter with rice or bulgur, or a kapsalon.
To share: a mixed grill for two is ideal when you come in as a group. Several kinds of meat, bread and sauces on one platter, and everyone takes what they like.
Everything at Tuana Grill is halal, so that is one thing you do not have to think about at night.
Tuana Grill: until 1 am on weekdays, until 3 am at the weekend
Tuana Grill at Bos en Lommerweg 313 is open seven days a week, from 9 am in the morning until 1 am Monday to Friday and until 3 am on Saturday and Sunday. The kitchen closes half an hour before closing time. That means on a Saturday night at half past two you can still pick up a fresh dürüm from the grill.
The restaurant is within walking distance of Erasmuspark, right by exit S104 of the A10 ring road. You can eat in or take away. Delivery is available via Thuisbezorgd, Uber Eats or directly through our own ordering page.
Tips for eating late
- Check the kitchen time, not the closing time. At most places the kitchen closes before the door does. With us that is half an hour.
- Order before half past midnight. On weekdays that leaves plenty of margin; at the weekend you have until half past two.
- Coming as a group? Give us a call. Then the grill is ready when you walk in: +31 20 341 6285.
- Pick-up is often faster than delivery at night. Delivery apps have fewer couriers after midnight; collecting it yourself often saves half an hour.
